Welcome to Camden Fort Meagher

Camden Fort Meagher is internationally recognised as being “One of the finest remaining examples of a classical Coastal Artillery Fort in the world”. For almost 400 years the fort played a key role as a strong strategic position for the defence of Ireland, the west coast of England and Wales. 65% of the fort is located underground in a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers. The fort is a prime location to watch ships passing through Cork Harbour, the second largest natural harbour in the world. Camden Fort Meagher is in the Ancient East and just 20 minutes from the Wild Atlantic Way.

As our 1916 weekend came to a close yesterday, one of the last ceremonies we held was the Multi Denominational Service and the Official Flag Raising. With a Defence Forces National Colour Party, which was comprised of soldiers from 4 and 5 Reserve Batteries,1 Artillery Regiment and 1 Southern
Brigade from Collins Barracks, a Bugler and Crosshaven singers.

We would like to thank everybody that helped us. Performers, behind the scenes help, site staff, volunteers, our project partners Cork County Council, those that sponsored us, helped us to spread the word and of course the public for the huge support and encouragement you all gave.

The weekend was a massive success and we look forward to an excellent, fun filled season ahead.

A spectacular performance from Cara O'Sullivan accompanied by her Chamber Orchestra and in this clip, singing with The Cork Prison Officers Male Voice Choir. I think any anyone that was at the show Saturday night will agree how well they worked together. ... See MoreSee Less
